Context
1
Due to current restrictions in international air traffic, there is no direct connection or cargo transfer between carriers to the final destination
2
Restrictions imposed by some foreign carriers on Russian origin cargo,
including in-transit shipments limit airlines’ options, routing
3
The above leads to complex transportation routes, and transit period for temperature-sensitive cargo which may reach 2 weeks
4

Internationally available refrigeration equipment (e.g. Envirotainer, va-Q-tainer), designed for long-term cold chain shipments are not available in Russia

What was done?

In response to the unique challenges associated with the international transport of immunobiology products, our team has developed comprehensive solutions which ensure strict standards are met, and cargo safety is guaranteed.

The introduction of innovative approaches and careful optimization of every aspect of the supply chain allowed us to successfully achieve our goals.

  • 1
ANALYSIS AND SELECTION OF A ROUTING
A thorough analysis of all possible routes was carried out, with a Latin American country selected as a transit hub. The choice took into account not only the regularity and geography of flights, but also the airport’s infrastructure capabilities for processing and storing temperature-controlled pharmaceutical cargo.
  • 2
    DEVELOPMENT OF CUSTOM PACKAGING
Together with a producer of temperature-sensitive packaging, a new product has was developed, equal in quality to foreign analogues. This packaging has successfully passed Operational Quality (OQ) validation. Testing successfully confirmed the ability to maintain internal temperatures of +2...+8°C for 192 hours at external temperatures up to +23°C.
  • 3
    LOGISTICS PLANNING
Design a logistics cold chain taking into account all possible risks and instability of international transport. Organise interaction with various airlines to ensure timely and reliable delivery.
Deliverables
  • ROUTE OPTIMIZATION

The route, designed using only scheduled flights, allows up to half a million doses to be transported in a single shipment. This eliminates the need for costly charter flights, reducing flight costs.

  • QUALITY AND RELIABILITY OF PACKAGING

Guaranteed maintenance of the required temperature throughout the entire route, due to new passive packaging, designed specifically for long-term transportation.

  • COST REDUCTION

Logistics optimization made it possible to reduce client costs by 20%, while improving transport efficiency without loss of product quality.

  • COMPLIANCE WITH GDP STANDARDS

Full compliance of the route and packaging with GDP standards, confirmed by the client’s Quality Department, emphasising the high level of innovation, professional level and responsibility by WELLGO
